Hariyali Teej 2027 falls on Wednesday, 4 August. The Tritiya Tithi runs from 06:49 AM on 4 August to 03:38 AM on 5 August in Dubai, and the observance itself is kept through the day and into the evening on the 4th, not tied to a narrow muhurat window. Married women keep a day-long fast for their husband's wellbeing, and young unmarried women keep it hoping for a good match.
These timings are calculated for Dubai in Gulf Standard Time and run well behind the Indian Standard Time your family back home will be quoting.
What Hariyali Teej Is
Hariyali Teej, also called Shravana Teej or Chhoti Teej, falls on Shukla Paksha Tritiya of the Shravana month and marks the reunion of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. Hariyali means greenery, and the festival is named for the fresh green the monsoon brings to North India during Shravana.
The day usually falls two days before Nag Panchami, and together with Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej, it is one of three Teej observances that fall across Shravana and Bhadrapada, the months that carry the monsoon in North India.

Hariyali Teej in the UAE
There are no fields or riverbanks here to hang a jhula from, so most Indian households in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi keep the swing tradition indoors, tying a small decorated swing for the Parvati idol rather than for themselves, and gather at home or with neighbours for the evening puja and songs instead of a village fair.
4 August 2027 is a regular working Wednesday in the UAE, and the Nirjala Vrat is kept without food or water. Women who keep it while working plan the day around the evening puja rather than the swings, and many shift the 16 Shringar and the aarti to after office hours.
Rituals of the Day
Women wake before sunrise, bathe, and dress in green, the colour associated with Shravana and with Parvati's blessing. A sankalp, a short vow to keep the fast and complete the puja with devotion, is taken before the day's rituals begin.
A small clay or metal image of Parvati, Shiva and Ganesha is set up for the puja. The goddess is offered the 16 Shringar, the sixteen traditional adornments that include sindoor, bangles, bindi and mehndi, along with white flowers and sweets.
For the Hariyali Teej puja
Shringar and puja pieces for the home altar.
In the evening, women light diyas and perform aarti for Shiva and Parvati together, then break the fast with a shared meal. Vrat katha, the story of Parvati's devotion, is read or listened to in a group where families gather for the evening.
ॐ पार्वती पतये हर हर महादेव
Om Parvati Pataye Hara Hara Mahadeva
Chanted during the evening aarti, calling on Shiva as Parvati's beloved.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is Hariyali Teej 2027?
Hariyali Teej 2027 falls on Wednesday, 4 August, with the Tritiya Tithi running from 06:49 AM that day to 03:38 AM the next, Dubai time.
Who observes Hariyali Teej?
Married women keep it for their husband's wellbeing and a happy married life, and unmarried women keep it hoping for a good match.
What is the Nirjala Vrat?
It is a fast kept without food or water from sunrise until the evening puja and aarti are complete.
Why is it called Hariyali Teej?
Hariyali means greenery. The festival falls in Shravana, when the monsoon turns North India green, and women mark it by wearing green.
How is Hariyali Teej different from Hartalika Teej?
Both honour Shiva and Parvati, but they fall on different tithis about six weeks apart. Hartalika Teej falls in Bhadrapada and carries its own separate night-vigil vrat.
Can I keep Hariyali Teej without the swing and the fair?
Yes. The vrat, the 16 Shringar and the evening puja are what the observance asks for. The swing and the fair are regional customs, not requirements.
What should I keep on the puja thali?
Sindoor, kumkum, bangles, a chunri for the goddess, flowers, sweets and a diya are the common items for the home altar.
Does the UAE timing differ from what my family in India follows?
Yes. Dubai runs behind Indian Standard Time, so always check the Gulf Standard Time window here rather than a timing quoted for India.
