What Kajari Teej Is
Kajari Teej, also called Badi Teej or Satudi Teej, falls on Krishna Paksha Tritiya of the Bhadrapada month and is kept mainly by women from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and parts of Madhya Pradesh. It comes about two weeks after Hariyali Teej and, like it, honours the marriage of Goddess Parvati to Lord Shiva.
Tradition holds that Parvati observed penance for Shiva's hand and that their marriage was settled in the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada, which is why this Teej carries the wedding-day association even though it falls in the dark fortnight rather than the bright one Hariyali Teej falls in.

Kajari Teej in the UAE
20 August 2027 is a Friday, which makes the fast easier to keep here than a mid-week Teej, since most UAE households have the day off to focus on the puja rather than fitting it around office hours.
There is no maternal home to travel to for most families in the UAE, so the visiting-the-maike custom is usually kept as a phone call or video call to mothers and sisters back home, with the puja itself performed at home or with a small group of neighbours.
Rituals of the Day
Women rise early, bathe and dress as a newly wedded bride would, with sindoor, bindi, bangles and mehndi on the hands and feet. Goddess Parvati is worshipped through the day, and the fast is kept without food from sunrise to moonrise or until the evening puja is complete, depending on family custom.
For the Kajari Teej shringar
Bridal shringar pieces for the puja.
In some homes the Neem tree and Chandra Dev, the moon god, are also worshipped in the evening. The day closes with songs, a shared meal among the women of the house, and prayers for the husband's long life.
ॐ उमा महेश्वराभ्यां नमः
Om Uma Maheshwarabhyam Namah
A salutation to Parvati and Shiva together, chanted during the Kajari Teej puja.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is Kajari Teej 2027?
Kajari Teej 2027 falls on Friday, 20 August, with the Tritiya Tithi present at sunrise and running until 05:23 PM that evening, Dubai time.
Who keeps the Kajari Teej fast?
Married women keep it for their husband's wellbeing, and unmarried women keep it hoping for a good life partner.
Is Kajari Teej the same as Hariyali Teej?
No. Both honour Shiva and Parvati, but Hariyali Teej falls on Shukla Tritiya in Shravana, while Kajari Teej falls on Krishna Tritiya in Bhadrapada, about two weeks later.
Why do women dress as a bride on Kajari Teej?
The day is associated with Parvati and Shiva's marriage, so women mark it by dressing in bridal finery as an act of devotion, not by attending an actual wedding.
Do I need to visit my maternal home to observe Kajari Teej?
No. Visiting the maike is a regional custom in India. In the UAE most women keep the fast and the puja at home and connect with family back home by phone.
What should be on the puja thali?
Sindoor, kumkum, bangles, mehndi, a chunri for the goddess, and sweets for the evening meal are the common items.
Is this the same festival as Raksha Bandhan?
No. Kajari Teej is a married women's vrat for their husband's wellbeing. It has no connection to the sibling bond that Raksha Bandhan marks.
Does the UAE date match what my family in India is following?
Yes, the date is the same, but always check the Gulf Standard Time window here rather than an IST timing quoted for India.
