This Ashtami Navami havan kit has everything for a complete havan at home, packed inside the vedi you perform it in: a heat-tested 21 cm terracotta clay vedi, 100 g of Vedic havan samagri, pure cow ghee, samidha, kande, kapoor, jau and a wooden spoon for the ahuti. A step-by-step havan vidhi sheet with every mantra comes inside, so the whole family can take part, from elders who have done it for decades to children offering their first ahuti.
Many families close Navratri with a havan on Maha Ashtami or Maha Navami, after the Durga Saptashati path and around Kanya Pujan. The kit works just as well for any home havan through the year: a griha pravesh, a birthday or a quiet Sunday morning.
What is in the havan kit
- Clay vedi - a handmade 21 cm terracotta vedi, heat-tested so it holds a home havan fire without cracking. The whole kit travels packed inside it.
- Vedic havan samagri, 100 g - our own blend of 30 Vedic ingredients across herbs, roots, spices, grains, dry fruits and aromatics. Blended by hand, with no machines and no chemicals.
- Pure cow ghee, 100 ml - for lighting the fire and for the ahuti at every swaha.
- Samidha - dry havan wood, laid across the fire once it settles.
- Kande - cow dung cakes that give the havan its steady base flame.
- Kapoor - camphor to light the kande cleanly.
- Jau - barley for the ahuti and the purnahuti.
- Wooden spoon - for offering ghee into the fire.
- Havan vidhi sheet - every step and mantra, in order.
How to perform the havan
- Set the clay vedi on a tile or steel plate in an airy spot. Use it dry, and keep it off bare marble or wood.
- Place two or three kande in the centre with a few kapoor tablets and light them.
- As the flame settles, lay the samidha across.
- At every "swaha", offer ghee with the wooden spoon and a pinch of samagri with your right hand. The vidhi sheet has every mantra.
- Close with the purnahuti and aarti. Once the ashes are fully cool, return them to a plant pot or garden soil.

Havan at home in the UAE
Families in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman do havan in apartments every Navratri. Many UAE buildings have sensitive smoke detectors, some linked to a central fire alarm, so open a window or balcony door before you light the fire and keep it small. Keep water close by, keep children and pets at a safe distance, and never leave the fire unattended.
We deliver across the UAE, and the kit qualifies for free delivery. For the rest of your Navratri altar, browse our Navratri Specials.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do this havan without a pandit?
Yes. The vidhi sheet inside walks you through each step and mantra in order, from lighting the fire to the purnahuti. What matters most is your sankalpa and a sincere offering.
Is the clay vedi safe for a fire?
Yes. The vedi is heat-tested to hold a home havan fire without cracking. Use it dry, set it on a tile or steel plate rather than directly on marble or wood, and keep the fire small.
Is the ghee included?
Yes, 100 ml of pure cow ghee comes in the kit, enough for lighting the fire and the ahuti of a home havan.
When should I do the Navratri havan?
Most families perform it on Maha Ashtami or Maha Navami, in the morning. Our Hindu calendar has this year's Ashtami and Navami timings set to UAE time.
Will the havan set off the smoke alarm in my apartment?
It can, if the room is closed. Open a window or balcony door first, keep the fire to a few kande and samidha at a time, and offer samagri a pinch at a time rather than in handfuls. Real herbal samagri smokes far less than cheap sawdust-based mixes.
How long does the havan take?
A simple havan with the Ganesh ahuti, 21 offerings and the purnahuti takes about 30 to 45 minutes, including setting up.
What do I do with the ash afterwards?
Let it cool completely, then mix it into the soil of a plant pot or bury it in garden earth. Do not throw it in the bin or into the sea.
Can I reuse the clay vedi?
Yes. Once it has cooled, brush out the ash, wipe it with a dry cloth and keep it for your next havan. Refill samagri, samidha and kande are available separately.
