The Mata Ki Chunni Combo is a set of 10 small chunris made for draping the deities in your home mandir. Each piece measures 30 cm x 40 cm in sheer net, scattered with gold sequin booti and edged all the way round with a gold gota band and a soft gold fringe. Sized for the murti, not for wearing

At 30 cm x 40 cm this is a murti and photo frame size. It is the right proportion for a small Durga, Lakshmi or Saraswati idol, a framed devi picture, or a kalash at Ghatasthapana. It is not big enough to wear over your head and shoulders.

How devotees use these

• Drape one over the murti of Maa Durga, Lakshmi ji or Saraswati ji. The net is sheer, so the face of the deity stays visible.

Caring for the net

Spot clean where you can. If a piece needs a full wash, hand wash it alone in cold water, press the water out instead of wringing, and dry it flat in shade. No bleach. If you iron, keep the iron low and put a cotton cloth over the sequins and the fringe.

What size is each chunni?

Each one is 30 cm x 40 cm. That is roughly the size of a sheet of A3 paper, cut for small idols and photo frames rather than for wearing.

What is the fabric?

Sheer net, sometimes called tulle. It is deliberately light and see-through so it drapes over a murti without hiding the face or the ornaments underneath.

Which ten colours will I receive?

Red, yellow, white, brown, pink, green, blue, orange, maroon and grey, one piece of each. Because the net is see-through, a folded or stacked chunni looks darker than it really is. Laid out singly, each one shows its true shade.

Can I wear this as a dupatta or head covering?

No. At 30 cm x 40 cm it is far too small for that. Choose the 2 x 1 metre Chunri Collection if you want something to drape on yourself.

Is one set enough for all nine days of Navratri?

Yes, with one to spare. Ten pieces cover the nine nights with a change for Dussehra, or let you dress more than one deity at the same time.

Are these suitable for Kanya Pujan?

Many families give a small chunni to each kanya along with the shagun, and this size fits that purpose well. For nine kanyas you will want one set.

Will the gold fringe shed?

The fringe is stitched into a gota band that runs right around the piece. Handle it gently while folding and it holds. Avoid pulling loose threads, and trim rather than tug if one works free.
