Full moon over water for Vaishakha Purnima 2027 - Divine Sansar

Vaishakha Purnima 2027 falls on Thursday, 20 May 2027. In Dubai the Purnima tithi begins at 2:32 PM on 19 May and ends at 2:58 PM on 20 May. It is the full moon of the month of Vaishakha, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, and it is also observed as Buddha Purnima.

Every time on this page is Gulf Standard Time for Dubai, and it holds for Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman within a few minutes. Indian panchang apps show different clock times, because tithi is worked out against local sunrise, so use the UAE figures here.

Significance of Vaishakha Purnima

Vaishakha is traditionally a month of charity, early rising and devotion to Lord Vishnu, and its Purnima is considered the high point of the month. Many families bathe early, keep a simple fast and hold a Satyanarayan Katha at home. The same full moon is Buddha Purnima, marking the birth, enlightenment and passing of Gautama Buddha in the Buddhist tradition. See our guide to Buddha Purnima for that side of the day.

Spiritually the day is a prompt to slow down, give and be grateful. Nothing here is a promise of any outcome. It is a time for energy alignment with intention.

How to observe Vaishakha Purnima

  1. Bathe early on 20 May, wear clean clothes and take a simple sankalp.
  2. Place an image of Lord Vishnu with Lakshmi on a clean cloth and light a ghee lamp.
  3. Offer flowers, tulsi leaves, fruit and sweets, and apply a chandan tilak.
  4. Read or listen to the Satyanarayan Katha and close with aarti using camphor.
  5. Share the prasad, and make an offering of giving to someone in need.

Your family or community tradition always comes first. Fasting is a personal choice, and anyone with a health condition, pregnant or elderly should follow their own doctor's advice.

Vaishakha Purnima in the UAE

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman have many families who mark Purnima with a Satyanarayan Katha at home or with a community group. Programmes vary each year, so ask your local temple or group for its plans. For temple locations, see our guide to Hindu temples in the UAE.

Thursday is a working day in the UAE. The UAE work week runs Monday to Friday, so most families keep the day light and hold the main puja in the evening. In apartments, use a small diya on a metal plate, keep it away from curtains, and check your building rules on open flames and incense.
