Saraswati Puja in the UAE: 2026 Navratri and 2027 Vasant Panchami Dates

Saraswati Puja 2026 in the UAE - Navratri and Vasant Panchami dates - Divine Sansar

There are two Saraswati Pujas in the Hindu year, and most people only know one of them. The next one in the UAE is Saturday, 17 October 2026, during Sharadiya Navratri, on Purva Ashadha Nakshatra. The Vasant Panchami Saraswati Puja follows on Thursday, 11 February 2027, with the Dubai muhurat running 06:57 AM to 12:34 PM.

Which one your family keeps usually depends on where you are from. South Indian, Bengali and Odia households keep the Navratri one. North and West Indian households keep Vasant Panchami. Plenty of families in the UAE now keep both. All timings on this page are calculated for Dubai in Gulf Standard Time.

All four Navratri Saraswati days and Vasant Panchami 2027, with Dubai timings and the samagri for each.

Why there are two Saraswati Pujas

The Navratri one belongs to the last four days of Sharadiya Navratri. Saraswati is invoked on Mula Nakshatra, worshipped on Purva Ashadha, honoured on Uttara Ashadha, and given leave on Shravana. It is fixed by nakshatra rather than by tithi, which is why the dates do not line up neatly with the Navratri day numbers.

Vasant Panchami is different. It falls on Magha Shukla Panchami, the fifth day of the waxing moon in Magha, and it marks the arrival of spring. It is also observed as Saraswati Jayanti, the birth of the goddess.

Neither is more correct than the other. If your family has always done one, keep doing that one.

Navratri Saraswati Puja 2026 dates for the UAE

Observance Date (Dubai) Nakshatra What happens
Saraswati Avahan Friday, 16 October 2026 Mula The goddess is invited. Books, pens and instruments are placed before her and set aside.
Saraswati Puja Saturday, 17 October 2026 Purva Ashadha The main puja. No studying, no reading, no playing the instrument.
Saraswati Balidan Sunday, 18 October 2026 Uttara Ashadha Offerings continue, the day before Durga Ashtami.
Saraswati Visarjan Monday, 19 October 2026 Shravana The goddess is given leave and the books are taken back up.

Bengali and Odia families also keep a Saraswati Puja on Ashwina Shukla Navami, which in 2026 is Tuesday 20 October. The four-day nakshatra sequence above is the South Indian reckoning and is the one used for Dubai timings.

This sits inside the wider Navratri window. Ghatasthapana is 11 October and Vijayadashami is 20 October, so the Saraswati days land in the second half. Our Navratri 2026 guide covers the full nine days, and Saraswati Avahan goes deeper on the invocation itself.

Vasant Panchami Saraswati Puja 2027 for the UAE

Observance Date and Time (Dubai)
Vasant Panchami 2027 Thursday, 11 February 2027
Puja Muhurat 06:57 AM to 12:34 PM
Madhyahna Moment 12:34 PM
Panchami Tithi Begins 01:34 AM, 11 February 2027
Panchami Tithi Ends 01:48 AM, 12 February 2027

The muhurat is a single morning window of five hours and thirty-seven minutes. Because the tithi runs across two nights, the puja is done in the Purvahna, the first half of the day, and not in the evening.

Who Saraswati Is

Saraswati is the goddess of learning, speech, music and every art. She sits on a white lotus, dressed in white, holding the veena, a mala and a book. The swan beside her is said to separate milk from water, which is the traditional image for discernment.

She is not asked for wealth or protection. She is asked for clarity: the ability to learn, to speak well, to play, to write, to think straight. That is why the offering is not money but the tools of your own work.

Saraswati Puja vidhi at home

  1. Bathe early and wear yellow or white. Yellow is the colour of both Saraswati Puja and Vasant Panchami.
  2. Clean the puja space and lay a fresh yellow or white cloth on the chowki. Face east or north east while sitting.
  3. Place the goddess. A photo or murti of Saraswati at the centre. If you do not have one, a book on a clean stand with a lamp beside it is accepted and is what many UAE families actually do.
  4. Place the books and instruments. Textbooks, notebooks, pens, laptops, a veena, a tabla, a violin, an artist's brushes. Whatever you work or study with goes in front of her.
  5. Light the lamp and incense. A ghee lamp on the right of the deity.
  6. Begin with Ganesha, as every puja does. Chant Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha five times.
  7. Offer haldi, kumkum and chandan, then yellow flowers. Marigold and yellow chrysanthemum are what is available here.
  8. Chant. Om Aim Saraswatyai Namaha, or the Saraswati Vandana beginning Ya Kundendu Tushara Hara Dhavala.
  9. Offer naivedyam. Yellow foods. Kesari bhaat, sweet boondi, yellow rice, bananas and jaggery.
  10. Aarti with camphor, then distribute prasad.
  11. Leave the books untouched until the next morning, or until Visarjan in the Navratri sequence.

What you need for Saraswati Puja

  • Saraswati photo or murti, or a book on a clean stand
  • Yellow or white cloth for the chowki
  • Haldi, kumkum and chandan kesar powder
  • Yellow flowers, and lotus if you can find it
  • Ghee or oil lamp, cotton wicks, incense and camphor
  • A brass thali, a bell and a kalash of clean water
  • Yellow naivedyam: kesari bhaat, boondi, bananas, jaggery
  • The books, pens and instruments themselves

Most of this is in the Pooja Samagri range, and the Diyas and Kumkum Plates collection covers the lamp and the holders.

The books are the point

This is the part people get wrong when they treat Saraswati Puja like any other festival. The offering is not the flowers. It is that you stop.

Books go down on the morning of the puja and are not opened again until the goddess is given leave. Musicians do not touch the instrument. Artists do not paint. The idea is that the work is handed over for a day, and taken back up as something given rather than something owned.

For children this is usually their favourite day of the year, for obvious reasons. It is also traditionally when a child is first taught to write, the Vidyarambham, with an elder guiding the hand to form the first letters in rice or on a slate.

Saraswati Puja in the UAE

This is a student festival, and the UAE has a very large number of Indian school families across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman. That shapes how it is kept here.

The timing is unusually kind in 2026. Saraswati Puja falls on Saturday 17 October, a weekend day, so the whole family can keep it without anyone taking leave. Vasant Panchami on 11 February 2027 is a Thursday and a school day, but its muhurat closes at 12:34 PM, so the puja is done at home before the school run.

Term timing matters. Mid-October sits just before the first-term assessment period in most Indian curriculum schools here, which is exactly why the day carries weight with parents. February sits close to the CBSE board exams. Both Saraswati Pujas land where students are already thinking about their studies.

Where to go. The Bur Dubai temple complex holds Navratri programmes through the whole nine days, and our Bur Dubai temple guide covers timings and access. The full list of options is in our guide to Hindu temples in the UAE.

Timing note. Everything here is Gulf Standard Time for Dubai. Indian panchang apps run one hour thirty minutes ahead, so a muhurat printed as 08:27 AM in India is 06:57 AM here. That gap is why some families in the Emirates end up doing the puja after the window has closed.

Ordering in time. For 17 October, order by around 13 October, because Navratri is the heaviest delivery week of the season and yellow flowers in particular sell out. For Vasant Panchami, the first week of February is comfortable.

Frequently asked questions

When is Saraswati Puja 2026 in the UAE?

Saturday, 17 October 2026, on Purva Ashadha Nakshatra, as part of Sharadiya Navratri. Saraswati Avahan is the day before on 16 October, and Saraswati Visarjan is on 19 October.

Is Saraswati Puja the same as Vasant Panchami?

They are two different days that both honour the same goddess. The Navratri Saraswati Puja is in October and is kept mainly in South India, Bengal and Odisha. Vasant Panchami is in Magha, on 11 February 2027, and is kept mainly in North and West India. Many UAE families now keep both.

What is the Vasant Panchami 2027 muhurat for Dubai?

06:57 AM to 12:34 PM on Thursday 11 February 2027, a window of five hours and thirty-seven minutes. The Panchami tithi itself runs from 01:34 AM on 11 February to 01:48 AM on 12 February.

Why should you not study on Saraswati Puja?

Because the books have been offered to the goddess. They are placed before her at Avahan and left untouched until Visarjan, or until the next morning if you keep only the one day. The pause is the offering.

What colour should I wear for Saraswati Puja?

Yellow, in both traditions. White is equally accepted, since Saraswati is shown dressed in white on a white lotus. Yellow flowers, yellow cloth and yellow naivedyam follow the same idea.

What do you offer Saraswati?

Haldi, kumkum, chandan, yellow flowers, and yellow foods such as kesari bhaat, boondi, bananas and jaggery. More importantly, you offer your own books, pens and instruments by placing them before her.

Can I do Saraswati Puja without a murti?

Yes. A photo works, and so does a book placed on a clean stand with a lamp beside it. This is common practice in UAE apartments where mandir space is limited, and it is not considered a lesser observance.

What is Vidyarambham?

The ceremony in which a child is taught to write their first letters, guided by an elder's hand, usually in rice or on a slate. It is traditionally done on Vijayadashami or on Saraswati Puja, and marks the formal beginning of learning.

Bringing it home

Saraswati Puja asks for the one thing that is genuinely hard to give: a day away from your own work. Set the books down on the morning of 17 October 2026, light the lamp, and pick them up again on the 19th.

The rest of the season is on our Hindu Festival and Tithi Calendar for the UAE, and our guides to Navratri 2026, Durga Ashtami, Maha Navami and Vijayadashami cover the days around it.
