Ganesh Visarjan 2026 dates run from Tuesday, 15 September to Friday, 25 September 2026, with the final visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi, Friday 25 September. Ganesh Chaturthi itself falls on Monday, 14 September 2026, and families choose their visarjan day according to how long they have invited Bappa to stay.

Ganesh Visarjan 2026 dates and muhurat (UAE)

Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is on Monday, 14 September. The Chaturthi tithi begins at 5:37 AM on 14 September and ends at 6:14 AM on 15 September. Sthapana and the main puja are performed during Madhyahna, 11:01 AM to 1:27 PM, with Abhijit Muhurat at 11:49 AM to 12:38 PM inside that window. Avoid Rahu Kaal, 3:17 PM to 4:49 PM.

Visarjan is then done on whichever day suits your household. These are the auspicious Choghadiya windows for each, in UAE local time.

On Anant Chaturdashi the Chaturdashi tithi runs until 9:37 PM on 25 September, so the visarjan should be completed before that.

One note on the 1.5 day: the Labh window that morning falls inside Rahu Kaal, so it is left out of the table above. Where a good Choghadiya and Rahu Kaal overlap, Rahu Kaal takes precedence.

How to do Ganesh Visarjan at home in the UAE

Sea and creek immersion is not practical or permitted across most of the UAE, and clay, paint and decoration in open water is discouraged everywhere. Home visarjan is the accepted and respectful alternative, and it is what most families in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman do.

Take a large tub, bucket or drum and fill it with clean water. A clay idol will need enough depth to be fully covered.

Before the visarjan, perform the final aarti with the whole family present. Offer modak, durva grass, red flowers and any prasad you have prepared through the days.

Perform Uttarpuja, the farewell puja, thanking Bappa for his stay and asking forgiveness for anything left undone or done incorrectly.

Carry the idol on a decorated thali or in cupped hands, and chant Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Laukar Ya - come again soon next year.

Lower the idol gently into the water. Do not drop it or push it under. Let it dissolve on its own, which takes a few hours for clay and can take overnight.

Once fully dissolved, use the water for your plants or garden. It is considered blessed and should not go down a drain if you can avoid it. Any flowers and durva can go into the soil.

Which visarjan day should you choose?

There is no more or less auspicious option. The tradition is that you keep Bappa for as long as your family has vowed to, and households keep that vow consistently year after year.

The 1.5 day visarjan suits families working full weeks in the UAE. The 3rd and 5th days are the most common in Indian expat households here. The 7th day and Anant Chaturdashi are kept by families with a longer tradition, and Anant Chaturdashi is the day of the large public visarjans in Maharashtra.

If it is your first year of installing Ganpati at home, choose 1.5 or 3 days. Whatever you choose becomes your family's practice.

Ganesh Visarjan in the UAE

Ganesh Chaturthi has become one of the most widely kept festivals among Indian families in the Emirates, and almost all of it happens at home. Idols are installed in apartments across Bur Dubai, Karama, Al Nahda and Abu Dhabi, and the ten days are marked with daily aarti, modak and neighbours visiting.

Once the idol has fully dissolved, pour the water into your garden, planters or the soil around a tree. It is considered blessed and should not be poured into a drain if there is any alternative.

Can I keep Ganpati for fewer than 1.5 days?
The 1.5 day visarjan is the shortest traditional option. If work makes even that difficult, install in the Madhyahna muhurat on 14 September and do visarjan in the evening Shubh window on 15 September.

Does the idol have to be clay?
For visarjan, yes. Plaster of Paris and resin idols do not dissolve and should not be immersed. Many UAE families now keep a permanent metal or porcelain Ganesha on the mandir shelf and install a small clay idol only for the ten days.

What mantra is chanted during visarjan?
Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Laukar Ya - Lord Ganpati, come again soon next year. The Uttarpuja is performed before the idol is lifted, and the final aarti before that.
