This is a set of 6 Jai Mata Di headbands, each a 90 cm red band printed with "जय माता दी", swastik and Mata motifs, edged on both sides with golden tinsel fringe. They are tied around the forehead by devotees and singers at a Jagrata, Mata Ki Chowki or Navratri bhajan sandhya, so the whole group sits before Maa in the same colour and the same words.

At AED 20 for six, one set covers a family or the core singers at a home Jagran, and a few sets dress a full Chowki.

What You Get

  • Quantity: 6 headbands per set
  • Size: 90 cm long; 4 cm printed band, 8 cm wide including the fringe
  • Design: red band printed with "जय माता दी" (Jai Mata Di), swastik and Mata motifs, repeated along the length
  • Edging: golden tinsel fringe on both long edges
  • Fit: one size, long enough to tie at the back of the head with ends to spare
  • Packed: all 6 together in a clear polybag

Why Devotees Tie the Mata Headband

Covering or binding the head is a sign of respect before the Devi, and in North Indian Jagratas the red Jai Mata Di patka has become the familiar mark of a bhakt sitting in Maa's darbar. Red is the colour of Shakti and of the chunri offered to Mata, so wearing it on the forehead keeps her name in front of you through the night of bhajans.

Hosts often hand these out as guests arrive, so everyone joins the "Jai Mata Di" jaikara as one sangat. They are equally at home at a Kanjak or Kanya Pujan or a temple bhajan evening.

How to Wear It

  • Place the printed side on the forehead with "जय माता दी" centred.
  • Take both ends round to the back and tie a simple knot or bow.
  • Let the loose ends fall behind, or tuck them in for the dhol and dance.

For Jagratas and Mata Ki Chowki in the UAE

Home Jagratas and Mata Ki Chowkis are held across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman, especially through Navratri, and finding matching headbands for a group locally is rarely easy. We deliver across the UAE, so your set arrives before the evening begins. You will find kalash, chunri, diyas and samagri for the rest of the setup in our Navratri Specials collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many headbands are in one set?

Each set has 6 headbands. For a larger Jagrata, add one set for every six people.

How long is each headband?

Each one is 90 cm long and 4 cm wide (8 cm with the fringe), which ties comfortably around an adult head and leaves ends hanging at the back.

Can children wear them?

Yes. Simply tie the knot tighter and tuck the extra length in. They are lovely for children at Kanya Pujan.

What is written on the headband?

"जय माता दी" - Jai Mata Di, meaning "Victory to the Mother" - printed in Devanagari with swastik and Mata motifs between each repeat.

Is this the same as a Mata Ki Chunni for the murti?

No. This is a narrow headband for devotees to wear. A Mata Ki Chunni is the wider cloth draped over the Devi's murti or photo.

Can I reuse them for the next Jagrata?

Yes. Fold them flat after use and store them in a dry place. Keep the fringe away from diya flames during aarti.
