The Shri Durga Saptashati (Devi Mahatmya) is the 700-verse hymn to the Divine Mother recited through Navratri, on Ashtami and in every Durga paath. Divine Sansar offers it in three editions so you can choose the one that fits how you read - a full hardcover with Hindi translation, an easy simple-Hindi hardcover with Durga Chalisa, or a Gita Press pocket paperback.

Which edition is right for you?

• Hardcover - Original Text with Hindi Translation (AED 60): the original verses with a careful Hindi translation and pāth-vidhi (reading procedure). 8.4 x 5.7 inches, sturdy enough for years on the altar. Best for regular paath, Navratri recitation and satsang groups.
• Hardcover - Simple Hindi with Durga Chalisa (AED 30): the complete Saptashati in easy Hindi, with the Durga Chalisa included for short daily recitation. 5 x 7.25 inches. Best for families, beginners and gifting.
• Pocket Paperback - Gita Press (AED 30): original Sanskrit shlokas (मूल श्लोक) with pūjan-vidhi (पूजन विधि) from Gita Press, Gorakhpur. 4 x 5.4 inches, made for travel and quick reference.

How devotees use the Saptashati

• Recite one or more chapters each day of Navratri, following the pāth-vidhi for the correct order.
• Complete the full paath on Ashtami or Navami, often alongside a havan.
• Read aloud at satsang, family gatherings or temple events across the UAE.
• Keep it on the mandir as a daily reference for Devi worship.

Care and storage

Store the book upright in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. If it lives on the altar, wrap it in a clean cloth when not in use, and avoid stacking heavy items on top so the binding stays intact.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Durga Saptashati?

It is the Devi Mahatmya from the Markandeya Purana - 700 verses in 13 chapters that tell of Maa Durga's victories over Mahishasura and other demons. It is the central text of Navratri worship.

Which edition should I buy?

For regular paath with understanding, choose the hardcover with Hindi translation. If you want an easy read for the whole family, pick the simple Hindi hardcover with Durga Chalisa. The Gita Press pocket paperback suits travel and anyone who prefers the original shlokas.

Can I read the Saptashati without a priest?

Yes. Many families read it at home. The hardcover and pocket editions include a pāth-vidhi or pūjan-vidhi that walks you through the order of recitation.

How long does a full paath take?

A complete reading usually takes two to three hours. Many devotees split it across the nine days of Navratri, reading a few chapters each day.

Is the pocket edition in Sanskrit or Hindi?

The Gita Press pocket paperback has the original Sanskrit shlokas with the pūjan-vidhi in Hindi. For a full Hindi meaning of every verse, choose the hardcover with Hindi translation.
