This Kali Mata statue is a 13 cm polyresin murti of Maa Kali in her classic Dakshina Kali form, standing over Lord Shiva with her tongue out, sword raised and a garland of heads around her neck. It is small enough for a home mandir shelf in a Dubai apartment and detailed enough to anchor a Navratri, Kali Puja or Amavasya altar. Reading the iconography
Every detail on this murti follows the traditional Dakshina Kali image. Maa Kali has four arms. One upper hand raises the khadga, the curved sword that cuts through ego and ignorance, and the other holds the severed head of an asura. A lower hand is open in blessing, the promise that she protects those who come to her.
Her tongue is out because of what happens next in the story. After defeating Raktabija, Kali's fury would not settle, so Lord Shiva lay down in her path. When her foot touched him she recognised him and bit her tongue, and her rage turned back into grace. That is why Shiva lies beneath her here - he is not defeated, he is the stillness that calms her.
The mundamala, the garland of heads, stands for the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet and the ego she removes from her devotees. Her dark colour is the colour of time itself, Kaal, from which her name comes.
When to worship Maa Kali
Kali Puja falls on the Amavasya night of Diwali, and is the main festival for Bengali, Odia and Assamese households. The seventh night of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Kalaratri, the fiercest form of Durga, and many families place a Kali murti on the altar for it. Devotees also keep her murti for Amavasya, Tuesday and Saturday prayers, and for protection of the home.
For daily worship, place the murti facing east or north on a clean red or black cloth. Offer a diya, red hibiscus (jaba phool), incense and a simple bhog. Many devotees chant "Om Kreem Kalikayai Namah" 108 times on a rudraksha mala.
Caring for a polyresin murti
Polyresin holds fine detail and does not chip as easily as clay, which makes it a good choice for homes with children. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Do not immerse it in water or use it for jal or milk abhishek - for that, offer water to a separate small shivling or kalash kept beside it. Keep it away from direct afternoon sun on a balcony, as UAE summer heat can dull the gloss over time.

Frequently asked questions
What size is this Kali Mata statue?
It is 13 cm tall and 10 cm wide. That fits comfortably on a standard home mandir shelf, a puja table or a work desk.
What is the murti made of?
It is made of polyresin, a dense resin that holds fine detail well. It is hand-painted and finished with gold leaf accents.
Why is Kali Mata standing on Lord Shiva?
In the story, Shiva lay in her path to calm her after the battle with Raktabija. When her foot touched him she recognised him, bit her tongue and became calm again. The image shows that moment of rage turning into grace.
Can I keep a Kali Maa murti at home?
Yes. Many families keep Maa Kali in the home mandir as a protective mother. Keep the space clean, offer a diya regularly and treat her with the same devotion as any other deity in your mandir.
Can I do abhishek with water or milk on this murti?
We do not recommend it. Polyresin is not made for regular bathing, and water can dull the paint over time. Wipe it with a dry cloth and offer abhishek to a separate kalash or small shivling instead.
Which direction should the Kali Mata murti face?
East or north is generally preferred for a home mandir. Place it at or above eye level on a clean cloth, never directly on the floor.
Is this a good murti for Kali Puja and Navratri?
Yes. It suits the Kali Puja altar on Diwali Amavasya and the Kalaratri night of Navratri, and its size works well alongside a Durga or Lakshmi murti.
