This is a set of twelve plain clay diyas, each about 5.5 cm across, packed in a window gift box. They are natural terracotta with no paint, finished with a lotus pressed into the base and a beaded rim, and a small leaf-shaped spout for the wick. This is the traditional mitti diya, ready for Diwali night.
Twelve is a practical number for lining a doorway, a balcony ledge or the steps of your home, and the small size means a little ghee or oil goes a long way.
What is in the box
- 12 plain clay diyas, about 5.5 cm each, with a pressed lotus design
- A window gift box with a foil-printed border and divided compartments, shrink-wrapped
- Wicks and oil are not included
Why plain clay
Unpainted terracotta is how diyas have been made for generations, and many families prefer it for pooja because it is simply earth, fire and oil. The lotus pressed into each bowl is a quiet nod to Lakshmi, who is shown seated on a lotus, which makes these a natural choice for Lakshmi Puja on Diwali.
How to prepare and light them
- Soak the diyas in clean water for an hour or two and let them dry fully before first use. Unglazed clay is porous, and soaking helps it hold oil instead of drinking it up.
- Add ghee or oil and lay a cotton wick along the spout.
- Place them on a steady, heat-safe surface and never leave a lit diya unattended.

Frequently asked questions
How big is each diya?
Each diya is about 5.5 cm across. Handmade clay varies a little from piece to piece.
Are these painted?
No. These are natural, unpainted terracotta diyas with a pressed lotus pattern.
Do I need to soak them before use?
It helps. Soak them in water for an hour or two and let them dry completely. The clay then absorbs less oil and burns more evenly.
Are wicks included?
No. Wicks and oil are sold separately. If you would like wicks in the box, our 6 cm plain diya set of 12 comes with cotton wicks.
Can I reuse them?
Yes. Wipe out the old oil once they cool and they are ready for the next pooja.
Is this a good return gift?
Yes. The window gift box makes it easy to hand over after a Diwali or housewarming pooja.
Do you deliver across the UAE?
Yes. We deliver to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and the rest of the UAE, with free delivery on orders from AED 30.
