The Midnight Thali Set is what you lay out before a puja begins: a 20.3 cm engraved brass thali, a bell with a peacock-feather handle, an eight-ingredient chandan kesar powder, four ready-mixed tilak pastes and a mor pankh. Bought as a set it is AED 149 instead of AED 165 for the five pieces separately.

There is no diya and no kapoor in this set. It opens a puja rather than performing one, and the flame is the piece you add yourself. We would rather say that here than let you find out at the shelf.

What is inside

  • Brass Pooja Thali - 20.3 cm across (8 inch), polished brass with fine floral engraving and a scalloped rim. Flat, with no fixed katoris, so the arrangement is yours.
  • Morpankh Ghanti - 8 x 4 cm puja bell with a peacock-feather styled handle.
  • Chandan Kesar 100 g - eight-ingredient tilak powder in a glass jar with a lid.
  • Hari Darshan Chandan Tika Combo - four ready tilak pastes at 40 g each: chandan kesar, white chandan, pure chandan and kumkum roli.
  • Mor Pankh - one natural peacock feather, small size.

The chandan is an eight-ingredient blend, not two

Chandan and kesar are what it is named for, but the jar holds eight traditional ingredients: chandan, raktachandan, kesar, agar, tagar, kapoor, jatamansi and herbs. Agar and tagar are what hold the fragrance so a tilak does not fade within the hour, jatamansi gives the earthy base and kapoor lifts it.

There is no starch, no talc and no synthetic fragrance in it, which are the three things cheap tilak powder is commonly cut with because real sandalwood and real saffron are both expensive to source. A 100 g jar is roughly six to nine months of daily use.

On the metal, plainly

The thali is brass, an alloy of copper and zinc and the traditional metal of the puja shelf. Brass darkens over time; that is oxidation rather than a fault, and lemon and salt or a mild brass cleaner brings it back.

The ghanti is a polished brass-tone finish and the exact alloy varies by batch, so we describe it as polished metal and do not certify it as solid brass. If that matters to you, the thali is the brass piece in this set.

Mixing the tilak paste

  1. Place a small pinch, around a quarter teaspoon, in a clean dry katori or tilak applier.
  2. Add a few drops of clean water, rose water or gangajal.
  3. Mix gently into a smooth paste. It should be slightly damp rather than runny.
  4. Apply with the ring finger to the centre of the forehead, or to the deity's forehead.
  5. Mix only what you need. The paste does not keep; the powder does.

The ghanti is traditionally rung three to seven times at the start of aarti or puja to mark the beginning, and a single clear strike also marks transitions through a long recitation.

Care

  • Wipe the thali after each use and store it flat and dry. Avoid abrasives so the engraving stays crisp.
  • Clean the ghanti with a soft dry cloth only, and never soak it.
  • Keep the powder jar closed, cool and out of direct sunlight. Sunlight is what costs you the saffron fragrance.
  • Never let water into the jar. Moisture clumps the powder and it does not recover.
  • Keep the feather dry and out of direct sunlight.

For our UAE family

Krishna Janmashtami falls on Friday 4 September 2026 in the UAE, with the Nishita puja from 11:55 PM to 12:41 AM Dubai time. Ganesh Chaturthi follows on Monday 14 September and Radha Ashtami on Saturday 19 September, so the same five pieces cover three occasions inside three weeks. Frequently asked questions

Is this cheaper than buying the five items separately?

Yes. The five products come to AED 165 on their own product pages. The set is AED 149.

Does the set include a diya?

No. There is no diya, no kapoor and no agarbatti in this set. It is the tilak and puja-opening set. If you need a lamp, our Crystal-Adorned Brass Akhand Diya starts at AED 25 in three sizes.

How big is the thali?

It is the 8 inch size, 20.3 cm across. Large enough for a diya, the ghanti and two katoris with room to move, and small enough to carry in one hand and store flat on the mandir shelf.

Is the thali really brass?

Yes, the thali is polished brass with engraved floral detailing and a scalloped rim, 20.3 cm across. The ghanti is a brass-tone finish whose alloy varies by batch, and we do not claim it as solid brass.

What is the difference between the chandan kesar powder and the tika combo?

The powder is mixed fresh with a few drops of water into a paste. The tika combo is four ready-made pastes you can apply straight from the jar. Most households use both: the powder for the deity, the ready pastes for family and guests on a busy festival morning.

Will the tilak stain clothes or skin?

The saffron and red sandalwood leave a soft warm tint. It washes off skin and most fabrics with water and soap, but take care around delicate cloth. Camphor is in the blend, so patch test first if your skin is sensitive.

Can this be used for festivals other than Janmashtami?

Yes. Nothing in this set belongs to a single deity, which is unusual for samagri. It suits daily pooja as well as Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Diwali, Karwa Chauth and grah pravesh.

Does it make a good housewarming or wedding gift?

Yes. A brass thali with the tilak essentials is a practical gift for a new home or a first mandir, and it arrives in one branded Divine Sansar box.

Do you deliver across the UAE?

Yes. We deliver to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, and this set clears free delivery on its own.
