The Lakshmi Aagman Diya Set is a big, hand-painted clay diya with a pair of Laxmi Charan, made for Dhanteras and Diwali Lakshmi Puja. Aagman means arrival, and that is the whole idea: the diya is lit, and Maa Lakshmi's feet step into your home. The diya is 19 x 17 cm and 4.5 cm deep, wide enough to light with ghee or oil and a cotton wick, and just as happy holding water and flower petals as a small urli. The two Lakshmi charan paduka sit beside it, toes pointing in.
The diya and the charan
The diya is shaped like a leaf, with a carved peacock curving round the top and a border of leaves running all the way to the spout. The rim is painted antique gold with dark shading in the carving, so every leaf and feather catches the flame. Inside, the bowl is finished in copper-bronze and carved with a full lotus mandala, with a single red stone at its heart.
The Laxmi Charan pair is 8 x 4 cm each, finished in the same copper-bronze. Each foot carries a carved swastik, beaded anklets and a gold flower fixed on top, so the pair reads as one set with the diya on your altar.
Light it, or use it as an urli
As a diya: fill the bowl with ghee or sesame oil, lay a cotton wick along the pointed spout and light the tip. The wide bowl holds a generous pool of ghee, so the flame stays steady through puja and aarti.
As an urli: fill it with water and float marigold or rose petals, a few flower heads or a floating tealight. On a console at the entrance or beside the mandir, it brings the festival look into the room for the whole Diwali week.
Where to place the Laxmi Charan
Set the charan pair at your main door, on the threshold of the puja room or beside the diya on the altar, always with the toes pointing into the home. This is Maa Lakshmi walking in; facing outward reverses the meaning. Many families add a few grains of rice, a dot of kumkum and a pinch of haldi beside the feet on Dhanteras and keep them in place through Diwali. Our Maa Lakshmi Puja Vidhi guide walks through the full home puja step by step.

Care tips
Keep the oil below the rim and the wick at the spout, and never leave a lit diya unattended. Let it cool fully before moving or wiping it. After using it as an urli, empty it and pat it dry rather than leaving water standing for days, and clean the painted surface with a soft dry cloth only.

Frequently asked questions
Can I really light this clay diya with ghee or oil?
Yes. It is made to be lit. Pour ghee or oil into the bowl, rest a cotton wick in the pointed spout and light the tip. Keep the oil below the rim and do not leave it burning unattended.
How do I use it as an urli?
Fill the bowl with water and float flower petals, whole marigolds or a floating tealight. Empty it and pat it dry after the festival so the clay is not left soaking.
Which way should the Laxmi Charan face?
Toes should always point into the home or toward the mandir. That shows Maa Lakshmi entering your home. Toes pointing out of the door would mean her leaving, which is the opposite of what you want on Diwali.
When should I place the Laxmi Charan?
Most families set them out on Dhanteras and keep them through Diwali Lakshmi Puja. Many keep them in the mandir all year as a reminder of her presence.
How big is the diya?
The diya is 19 x 17 cm and 4.5 cm high, much bigger than a regular mitti diya. Each charan is 8 x 4 cm. See the actual-size photo in the gallery to picture it on your altar.
Is the flower on the charan removable?
No. The gold flower is fixed to each foot, so nothing comes loose when you move them.
Is this a good Diwali gift?
Yes. It arrives in a brown box with the diya and charan together, so it is ready to hand over for Diwali, Dhanteras or a griha pravesh.
