The Pure Copper Kalash is a handcrafted sacred vessel at the heart of every Hindu pooja, symbolising abundance, purity and divine energy. Made from high-quality copper with a smooth polished shine, it is used for Kalash Sthapana, pooja and havan ceremonies, and for storing holy water such as Gangajal. Available in three sizes, so you can choose the right one for your mandir and ritual.

The meaning of the Kalash

The kalash represents abundance and the source of life, and its sthapana (installation) is one of the first steps in many poojas and havans. Filled with water and crowned with mango leaves and a coconut, it is invoked as the seat of the deities and a symbol of good fortune entering the home. Copper is the traditional metal for these sacred water vessels in Indian ritual.

How to set it up (Kalash Sthapana)

  1. Clean the kalash and mark a Swastik with kumkum on the front.
  2. Fill it with clean water or Gangajal (and a coin, supari or rice if your vidhi calls for it).
  3. Arrange five or seven mango leaves around the rim and rest a coconut on top.
  4. Keep it on a bed of rice on your altar for the duration of the pooja.

Frequently asked questions

What is a copper kalash used for?

It is a sacred vessel used for Kalash Sthapana at the start of poojas and havans, and for storing holy water such as Gangajal. Filled with water and topped with mango leaves and a coconut, it symbolises abundance and the seat of the deities.

What sizes are available?

Three sizes: Small (5 cm high, 5 cm top), Medium (5 cm high, 6 cm top) and Large (6.5 cm high, 7 cm top). Choose by the space on your mandir and your ritual needs.

How do I do kalash sthapana?

Fill the kalash with clean water or Gangajal, mark a Swastik with kumkum, arrange mango leaves around the rim and place a coconut on top, then set it on a small bed of rice on your altar.

Does it come with mango leaves and coconut?

No, those are fresh items you add during the ritual. The package includes the copper kalash in your selected size.

Why has the copper darkened?

Copper develops a natural patina with time. It does not affect use, and a quick clean with lemon and salt or a mild copper cleaner restores the shine.

Is it suitable for gifting?

Yes. A pure copper kalash is an auspicious gift for housewarmings, weddings and festivals, and a lovely start for anyone setting up a new home mandir.
