Vibhuti, also called Thiruneeru, Shiva Vibhuti, Bhasmam or Bibhuti Bhasma, is the sacred ash of Lord Shiva, worn as a tilak and offered in daily pooja. This is a fine, soft, cool-white bhasm in a compact 5 cm glass jar with a screw cap, sized to sit neatly in a home mandir or travel in a pooja bag. A small pinch is all a tilak needs, so one jar lasts through many prayers.

What is Vibhuti Bhasm?

Bhasm is made from sacred materials according to traditional methods. It is often derived from burnt cow dung, dried wood or other organic substances considered pure, which are reduced to ash and then refined through several purification steps.

That process is the heart of its meaning. Fire turns the offering to ash, and the ash that remains is pure. In the same way, bhasm symbolises the removal of impurities from the soul and a reminder of what is lasting beyond everything that burns away.

How Vibhuti is used

• Daily pooja and tilak: apply as a tilak on the forehead during prayers, whether a single dot or the three horizontal lines of the Shaiva tripundra.
• Shiva worship: offered in Shivling pooja, abhishekam, Pradosham and Monday (Somvar) prayers, and a natural part of Maha Shivaratri and Shravan rituals.
• Temples and ceremonies: widely used in temples, homes and religious gatherings as part of pooja samagri and devotional practice.
• Yoga and meditation: some practitioners use Vibhuti Bhasma as a focal point for concentration, applying it on the Ajna Chakra, the third eye point between the brows, to settle the mind before meditation.

How to apply

1. Unscrew the cap and take a small pinch with a clean fingertip.

3. Use sparingly - a little goes a long way.
4. Close the jar tightly and keep it in a cool, dry place in your mandir, away from moisture.
