This is a decorated clay Laxmi Ganesh idol pair for Diwali and Dhanteras pooja. Each murti stands 10 cm tall and 6 cm wide, so the pair fits a home mandir, a pooja chowki or a thali. Maa Laxmi and Ganesh ji arrive dressed and adorned, ready to be seated for Lakshmi Pujan.

In many North Indian homes, a fresh pair of mitti ke Laxmi Ganesh is welcomed every Diwali. The new idols are worshipped on Lakshmi Puja night and stay in the mandir through the year, and the previous year's pair is respectfully retired. This pair is made for exactly that ritual.

What They Look Like

Both idols sit under a small purple chhatri (canopy) topped with a gold spire, in front of a golden prabhavali backplate set with silver-rimmed coloured stones. Ganesh ji wears a gold dhoti with green and gold gota lace. Maa Laxmi wears a red and gold saree with a nath and bindi.

Each carries pearl and gold bead malas and a red crystal drop at the base. Every pair is decorated individually, so small differences in stones and lace placement are normal.

How to Seat Them for Lakshmi Puja

Place a clean red or yellow cloth on a chowki and seat both idols. Offer roli, akshat, flowers and a diya, and keep the kalash beside them. For the full step-by-step vidhi, read our Maa Lakshmi Puja Vidhi guide.

These are half-fired clay idols dressed in fabric, and they are not waterproof. Offer water by sprinkling a few drops on the flowers rather than bathing the murti. A dry abhishek of flowers and kumkum keeps the decoration intact.

Diya safety: the chhatri and lace are fabric. Keep every diya flame at least a hand's width away from the idols, and never leave a lit lamp unattended beside them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do families buy new clay Laxmi Ganesh idols every Diwali?

In many North Indian traditions, Diwali marks a fresh start, so a new pair of mitti ki murti is installed for Lakshmi Puja each year. Clay is a natural, humble material that returns to the earth, which is why it has long been the traditional choice for this ritual.

Are these terracotta idols?

No. They are half-fired: fired enough to hold their shape and take the decoration, but not baked hard like terracotta. That is why the clay can return to the earth after a year, and why the idols should be kept dry.

What should I do with last year's Laxmi Ganesh idols in the UAE?

Remove the fabric, beads and stones first. Then place the clay in a bucket of water at home. Because the idols are half-fired, the clay softens and breaks down slowly rather than all at once, so give it time. Once it has broken down, pour it into a garden bed or a large potted plant. Many families say a short prayer of thanks before they do this.

How big are the idols?

Each idol is 10 cm tall and 6 cm wide. That is roughly the length of your palm, so the pair sits comfortably on a small chowki, a pooja thali or a mandir shelf.

Which side should Maa Laxmi sit on?

Customs differ between families and regions. Follow the placement your family has always used, or ask your pandit ji before Lakshmi Puja.

Can I buy the idols separately?

No. Maa Laxmi and Ganesh ji are worshipped together on Diwali, so this listing is a pair only.

Can I keep them in my mandir after Diwali?

Yes. Most families keep the new pair in the home mandir through the year and worship them daily, until the next Diwali brings a fresh pair.

How is the pair packed?

Both idols come together in a plain box with protective wrapping. It is not a gift box, so wrap it yourself if the pair is a present. The canopy and stones are delicate, so lift each idol from its base rather than by the chhatri.

Do you deliver across the UAE?

Yes. We deliver across the UAE, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman, and delivery is free on orders from AED 30.
