How it is used

Betel leaf sits at the centre of tambulam, the offering of leaf, areca nut and coin given to guests and to married women at Varalakshmi Vratam, Navratri haldi kumkum and weddings. Two leaves are placed under the supari on the thali, leaves are laid beneath the kalash, and small prasad items are served on them.

The leaf is also used at Ganesh Chaturthi, where Ganpati is offered betel alongside durva and modak, and at grah pravesh where it marks the first offering in a new home.

Keeping them fresh

Wrap the leaves in a slightly damp cloth and keep them in a perforated bag in the fridge. Handled this way they stay glossy for two to four days. Do not freeze, and do not seal them in an airtight bag, as trapped moisture turns the leaf black at the edges.

Two go under the supari on the thali and two beneath the kalash. Beyond that it depends on how many tambulam plates you are giving out. A pack of 10 covers a home puja with guests.

Why does this listing sell out so often?

Betel is perishable and we buy in small batches rather than holding stock that would not stay fresh. Message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you the next batch date and set a pack aside.

Are the leaves washed and ready to use?

Rinse them under clean water and pat dry before offering. We pack them as picked so they keep better in transit.

Can these be used for eating paan?

They are food grade betel leaves, so yes, following normal food handling. They are stocked here for ritual use, and that is what the pack size is built around.

Which leaf goes on the thali, and which way up?

The leaf is placed with the tip pointing away from you and the glossy side facing up, with the supari and coin resting on it. Family custom varies, and both orientations are followed.

Can I order for a specific date?

Yes, and with betel it matters most. Put the date in the order notes and we will cut the batch for that day.

Do you deliver betel leaf outside Dubai?
