If you’re fascinated, read on and find out how you can easily have a Vastu-approved pooja room!
What directions should your idols face?
Did you ever wonder why our elders kept the idols of gods in a row? The idols were in a row because mandir Vastu says that your idols should never face each other! If you remember the pooja room in your grandmother’s home, you will be able to picture rows of idols neatly ordered and worshipped with care. No matter what the direction your pooja room is in, the gods’ idols should be facing towards the northeast. While praying, it is encouraged to face the north-east, north, or east— – so place your idols accordingly.
What’s the best color for your mandir?
Your pooja room is a pious space, so it should have a calm and composed color. Experts recommend using soothing and delicate colors in your pooja room to augment the piousness of the area. Choose from the cool blues, ever-popular white, or softer shades of orange and yellow. You can also check out a Vastu-approved color guide for your home.
Where to keep your gods?
If you wish for a Vastu-approved pooja room, put aside space for the idols of the Gods on the ground floor of your home. This space should ideally be away from the staircases and bathroom, but our expert has a way out in case it’s impossible.
Can you keep your idols in front of the walls?
Vastu experts suggest we are against keeping our idols inclining against the wall in the pooja room. You can achieve this without bringing in significant changes to your mandir design. Leave an inch and a half space between your idols and the wall. The incense can spread throughout the room, making it smell fragrant.
Where to place candles and lamps?
Lighting candles and lamps in the pooja room have been an undisputed tradition. According to pooja room Vastu, this wards-off negative energy. So, place your lamps and candles in front of the idols facing the southeast. Find lamps that blend in with your decor, and you’re good!
Ensure that you have no broken idols
As per Vastu, cracked or broken idols of gods and offering prayers to the same is unfortunate. Such idols can cause Vastu doshas. Nonetheless, please do not get rid of them in haste! Experts recommend submerging damaged or broken idols in the holy rivers or placed under a peepal tree. Make sure that all the idols in your pooja room are in a graceful state.
What should not be kept in your pooja?
People keep garlanded pictures of deceased relatives in many homes in the mandir. But, this is against the Vastu recommendations for the mandir. Although you can offer prayers to your ancestors in the mandir, avoid keeping their pictures there. Instead, opt for soothing photographs, if you must. These photographs should be in the southwestern or southern part of your home. Furthermore, since the home mandir is a sacred space, Vastu instructs us to keep only calming pictures in the room to add to its piousness. So stay clear of images of war and other such things.
Should your pooja room have doors?
Ideally, your pooja room should have doors to give you some privacy when you are in prayer. It will also prevent insects from entering the pious space. This door should be against your pooja room’s north or east wall. You can also opt for double doors.
We hope these few easy steps will help you with your Vastu and tell you the correct ways to place idols and other things in your mandir or pooja room.
