As per Hindu beliefs, Sankranti is when the Sun transitions from one zodiac sign to another. So, when Sun goes into the Virgo sign, it is called Kanya Sankranti or Ashwin Sankranti. Lord Vishwakarma, the divine engineer, is worshipped on the day of Kanya Sankranti, and this day is also celebrated as his birth anniversary. Lord Vishwakarma created this world at Lord Brahma’s command. Hence, it is considered that for anyone who worships on this day with devotion and dedication, all their problems end, and they are blessed with plentiful wealth.
On Kanya Sankranti, people perform numerous kinds of charity and donations, along with Shradh puja for the ancestors and penance traditions. As a tradition on this day, people also bathe themselves in the holy water to get rid of sins on their souls and body.
Kanya Sankranti needs to worship workers’ tools and machinery. It is believed that with determination and dedication toward work, one has a better and brighter future as it brings prosperity to a person’s life. People also bring statues of Lord Vishwakarma to their factories, offices, and workplaces to worship him. This day is celebrated with joy and dignity.
On Vishwakarma Pooja day, people do not use their equipment and tools as they are worshipped along with the deity. Factories and workshops remain closed, and the blog offered to Lord Vishwakarma is distributed as Prasad.
People are suggested to reach out to those who need help (in kind or cash). It is also an important day for carrying out charitable actions. In other words, it is considered an ideal day for Daan-Punya.

Why do People Practice Vishwakarma Puja?
They do it to improve their work, leading them to increased earnings and thus towards the good life.
Sankranthi worship is also known as Vishwakarma Puja and Biswakarma Puja.
Many decades ago, the name “Vishwakarma” was used for Brahma; a Hindu god believed to be the creator of the universe. Later, people began to consider the reputation of other deities.
Purana and other Hindu chronologies introduced the name of the divine architect. He is the creator of the Swarga (Heaven), Lanka (the city of Gold which Ravana ruled in Ramayan), and Dwarka (the holy city in Dwapara Yuga, the era of Krishna who ruled Dwarkadheesh).
Lord Vishwakarma is also known for creating weapons that are talked about in mythological stories and the folklore of the earliest ages (Yuga). This includes Indra’s famous weapon, also known as “Vajra,” made from the bones of Sage Dadhichi.
As Lord Vishwakarma, also spelt as Lord Biswakarma, is believed to be the architect of the universe, people revere him. Devotees of Hinduism perform Vishwakarma worship, especially those who belong to the architectural business in Orissa, Bengal, and Eastern India’s region. It is a significant occasion for engineers, mechanics, welders, weavers, smiths, artisans, industrial workers, and factory workers.
As Bishwakarma Ji is known to have perfection and quality-producing hands, people do not worship him to seek blessings in their work or profession only; they also seek excellence and quality in their work and craftsmanship.
