Vaastu Shastra is the science behind architecture and interiors. It blends the natural elements with the physical coordinates of your house. Vaastu Shastra has been referred to by some of the oldest Indian designers and constructors of the Indus Valley Civilization. So, what exactly is Vaastu Shastra and how does it affect the energy, vibes, aura, health, wealth, and well-being of the people who inhabit the place?
The term Vaastu Shastra translates to ‘the science of dwelling’. The Sanskrit text, Atharvaveda consists of the maps and theories on cosmic planning which were roughly adapted to build palatial temples since the 1st century CE. The inclusion of mathematical rules for building Vedic yajna square for the sacrificial fire, efficient town planning, villages, and kingdoms in harmony with nature is what Vaastu Vidya consists of.
Our home is the most important place for us on this planet. It is, therefore, necessary to build/rent one which is in sync with the patterns of the wind, the direction of the sun, and the revolution and rotations of the earth around the sun which has the Coriolis effect. This effect twists the wind in a counter-clockwise direction in the Northern Hemisphere while clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.
Implementing some Vaastu Science in your house will positively affect the overall well-being of you and your family members. Read on to find out the best tips that we found from the texts.
Entrance
Everything comes in through this point. People, things, vibes, vehicles, pets, and energies. Make sure the entrance faces North East or East. When you step out of your house, you should be facing the East of the North-East direction. This is because the East of the Earth rotates to the Sun first thing. Sun is the source of energy that is essential for the survival of most beings on Earth. It is a natural element and like the Earth is home to our species and many more, similarly, our home on Earth should face the same side.
Objects Near the Entrance
Everything carries its energies. Avoid placing a water body near the entrance. Shoe racks, toilets, dustbins, and septic tanks are some things that can carry negative energies. Do not place them anywhere near the entry door. The main door should tower over the other doors in the house. Put artistic nameplates and decorative hangings that look welcoming on the door for good vibes. You can also place plants as they carry very healing energies.
Meditation Room
To perform at your highest supreme self in all aspects of life, connecting to a higher power opens up the portals and possibilities for success in all that you do. No matter how small or big, every house should have a space for Yoga and Meditation. This room/space must be in the North /North-East direction for sun salutations. Facing East while meditating increases your chances of attaining spiritual guidance. Light colours such as beige, white, and light green make you feel calm and at peace so they should be used for this space.
Living Area
Since the entrance is in the East/North East, the living room where you entertain outsiders should either be facing North, North East, or northwest. This is a very powerful direction and it wards off negativity while inviting positivity. Avoid placing too much furniture or objects in your living area. It should be clutter-free for easy movements for those unaware of your house’s directions. Place a mirror on the North Wall of the living room to reflect any energy entering your door.
Bhrahmasthan
The centre of your house, the Brahmasthan is the holiest and most powerful place. It is the cosmic centre of your home therefore placing a Tulsi plant here would increase the flow of healing energies in every direction of the house. This space should be clutter-free and should not have any construction or built-up walls within a 1.5-meter periphery. Do not build a kitchen, toilet, or beams/pillars in this area, which would attract ill health to the family. In Vedic terms, this is the seat of Brahma and should be left vacant for the flow of powerful energy.
Bedroom
Half of your life hours are spent sleeping so having the bedroom in the right place is crucial. Sleep is the main detox time for the body. The Southwest direction is the best for bedrooms. Even the bed should be in the southwest corner. When you sleep, your head should be in the West direction to keep the flow of blood in alignment with the rotation of the earth from the west to east direction. Do not place a TV or a mirror facing the bed as it will lead to discords. Walls must be painted in earthy or pastel colours and dark colours like black should be avoided since these colours absorb energy where negativity could become stagnant.
Vaastu Shastra incorporates the reasoning behind the placement of natural elements like earth, fire, wind, and water in and surrounding the house. According to ancient texts, the human body is made up of these natural elements and therefore we are all connected to our surroundings. Considering the above tips would bring in a feeling of calm, cohesion, and peace for those inhabiting the house.
